Deane Rice PeacockFebruary 3, 1919 ~ December 29, 2017 (age 98)
Deane Rice Peacock of Raleigh, NC, a retired teacher, passed away at home on December 29, 2017. She was 98 years old. A native of Morgan, GA, Mrs. Peacock resided in Atlanta, GA for 55 years before moving to Raleigh, NC in 2001 to be near family. She graduated from Georgia Southwestern College, Georgia State College for Women, and Georgia State University, earning B.S, M.A, and Ed S degrees. She taught Mathematics in the Atlanta Public School System for most of her career, and loved teaching middle schoolers.
Mrs. Peacock was an avid gardener with a special affinity for orchids. She was a member of the Atlanta Orchid Society and Wyntercreek Home and Garden Club. She also loved to entertain and was a member of the Wynterhall Hospitality Club and many bridge clubs.
Mrs. Peacock is preceded in death by her husband John Banks Peacock Jr. and 9 brothers and sisters. Surviving are her daughter Patricia Evans of Colorado, granddaughter Christine Lukes Rhoad of Raleigh, NC, great grandchildren Rachel Virginia Rhoad, Caroline Banks Rhoad, and Carter James Lukes Rhoad, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Interment services were held at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Riverdale Cemetery, 1000 Victory Dr, Columbus, GA.
