Helen Bernice Brown

Helen Bernice Brown, 88, of Butner, NC, passed away February 6, 2018 at Duke Regional Hospital. She was born May 28, 1929 in Tishomingo, MS to the late Henry Archie Deaton and Ada Tidwell Deaton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester A. Brown, brothers, Chamlis Deaton and Dwight Deaton; sisters, Zelma Scoby and Inez Pharr.

Mrs. Brown had a beautiful smile and was loved by many. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching wrestling, attending church, cooking, shopping, crocheting, and spending time with family and friends. After many years of dedicated service, she retired from the Battle Creek VA Medical Center. She will be greatly missed by family and everyone that knew her.

A memorial service was held at 5:30 P.M., Saturday evening, February 17, 2018 at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her children, Michael Brown of Battle Creek, MI, Carol Brown of Battle Creek, MI and Brenda Glasper Foye (Alvis) of Franklinton, NC; grandchildren, Michael Brown Jr., Christopher Brown, Andrew Brown, Angela Hubbard, Marvin Glasper II and Julius Glasper; eleven great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren; four half-brothers and one half-sister; nieces, Patti Jones (Craig) of Battle Creek, MI and Sara George (Riley) of Belmont, MS, nephew, Sonny Pharr of Battle Creek, MI, and a host of other nieces and nephews;  special longtime friend, Mildred Lewis and friend Brenda Russell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Cancer Research Institute, National Headquarters, 29 Broadway, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10006-3111.
