Henry Martin Kegley Jr.

April 3, 1957 ~ December 29, 2017 (age 60) 60 Years Old

Henry Martin Kegley Jr., 60, of Raleigh, NC passed away on December 29, 2017 peacefully at home after a five-year valiant fight with cancer. He was born in Monmouth County, NJ to Henry Martin Kegley Sr., and Dolores Fohl Kegley, and was the eldest of their six children. He was lovingly referred to as “Harry” by his family and friends then upon high school graduation, and wanting to make a change, he decided to join the United States Marine Corps and be referred to as “Hank” from then on.

With the Marine Corps, Hank saw the world. He served on ships and shores in various countries such as Norway, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Philippines, Somalia and Haiti, and in Operations Desert Shield & Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf. Stateside he served in New Jersey, Washington, California and North Carolina.

While serving on recruiting duty in Red Bank, NJ he worked in a neighboring office of a female Navy recruiter’s aid that caught his eye. Hank and Kristina met, they married and the rest is history. After serving almost 24 years, in 1998, he retired as a Master Sergeant and began a career in computer systems. Initially, Hank was employed with Computer Science Corps, and then IBM, then transitioned to Hewlett Packard, and employed there for more than 16 years till his health began to decline.

Throughout his life Hank enjoyed traveling, spending time with his friends, his family and his pets. He also loved boating, fishing, wakeboarding, and was an avid beer and wine enthusiast who enjoyed exploring various breweries and vineyards.

Survivors in addition to Kristina, his wife of 36 years, include a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel & Cari Leigh Kegley, a granddaughter, Margo, and siblings: Denise Breedlove, Eric Kegley, Laura Holloway, Jerry Kegley, Sandra Kegley and a host of extended family throughout the country.
