Thurman "Gene" Eugene Fisher

THURMAN EUGENE "Gene" FISHER, 72, passed away on February 20, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Memphis, TN on January 13, 1946, and was the son of Floyd and Mae Fisher.  Gene's positive attitude, sense of humor, and generosity will be missed by all who knew him.  

Gene grew up in Memphis, where he began a long and successful career with IBM, which took him to many exciting cities.  He retired in 2002, happily beginning the next chapter in his life, which included starting Riveroaks Antiques, perfecting his tennis game, and enjoying time with his grandchildren.

Gene lived his life by the quote, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."  Gene shared his feelings with us through his deep love of music and cooking.  He often spent hours creating the perfect playlist for any occasion and was always searching for new recipes that would turn even the most casual meal into a dining experience full of love.

Gene was preceded in death by Judy Fisher, his wife of 38 years, his daughter, Shannon Policastro, and his parents, Floyd and Mae Fisher.  He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Wright and her husband Kevin; two grandchildren; Connor Wright and Sarah Policastro; his sister Patria Helton, and his partner Anna Tabor.  

A funeral service for Gene will be held at The Chapel of the Cross, 304 E. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, North Carolina on March 6, 2018 at 2:00 pm.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gene's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
