Anita Thompson Woods, 42, of Rougemont, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
Anita was a remarkable individual, mother, daughter, wife, sister, and friend. She was a caring and talented person whose passions included caring for others, raising dogs, preparing gourmet food cuisines, and creating beautiful arts and crafts.
From a young age, Anita discovered her calling in serving others, beginning with her dedicated service on the Apex Junior Rescue Squad. Her desire to help those in need led her to obtain her EMT basic certification, establishing a strong base and commitment to helping others.
When her son, Kaleb was born, Anita’s life-long priority became an enduring devotion to her beloved family. She also cared deeply for others outside her family by selflessly assisting strangers. Her acts of kindness, from purchasing food for the hungry to assisting strangers at Walmart, touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on her community.
Second only to her family, Anita cherished her dogs. She found great measures of comfort and delight in their companionship. Moreover, her love for her dogs reflected her nurturing nature and deep capacity for empathy.
In honor of Anita's fondness for the color purple, the family requests that attendees of her service incorporate some form of purple attire as a tribute to her vibrant spirit and enduring legacy. Whether a subtle accent or a bold statement, each touch of purple will symbolize the profound impact Anita had on those around her.
Anita is survived by her husband. Gary Woods, children, Kaleb, and Samantha; mother, Linda Riggsbee of Cary; sister, Kimberly Beverley and husband Michael of Angier; brother, Dustin Thompson of Fayetteville; grandmother, Florence McLamb of Jacksonville, FL; grandfather, Larry Pender of Four Oaks; mother-in-law, Pamela Reaves and husband Danny of Haw River; many aunts, uncles and extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, Steven Randall Thompson, and her father-in-law, Billy Woods.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday afternoon, March 16, 2024, at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home followed by a reception and visitation with the family.
