Ann Elise Carter, 77, of Wake Forest, was called home to be with the Lord Wednesday morning, October 20, 2021 at Peak Resources Brookshire in Hillsborough, NC. She was born in Forsyth County to the late Louie Lloyd Carter and Ruth Landingham Carter.
Ann was born to be a teacher and a mother. Even after her retirement, she spent many nights teaching school in her dreams. She was an avid reader and passed a love of learning and books onto the many students she had the pleasure to teach throughout her career and to her daughter and granddaughters.
A lover of Coca-Cola, who never got over the change to “new Coke,” Ann was a likely contributor to many years of the company’s success, as you rarely saw her without a Coke in her hand. Her laughter was contagious and her stories would keep any listener engaged and waiting for what comes next.
Ann surrounded herself with fur babies - cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs and a host of gerbils that were classroom pets. She cared for all living things and was no stranger to taking in a host of stray animals. She was most content curled up with one of her pets, a good book and a Coke. She will be remembered as a strong, opinionated, giving and loving woman, whose legacy will live on through the many lives she touched.
The family will hold a private service at a later date.
Ms. Carter is survived by her daughter, Janna Hammond Rawls & husband Dustin McMorris of Wake Forest; granddaughters, Leianna Rawls, Charlotte McMorris and Helena McMorris all of Wake Forest; former husband, Nick Rawls of Cary; a host of extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a local animal shelter or to a local school.
