Audrey Ann Lochansky Obituary

Audrey Ann Lochansky, 70, of Apex, passed away on January 7, 2021. She was born in Bronx, New York to the late Jack Bernstein and Hilda Rosenfield Bernstein on June 16,1950.

Married to her husband in 1971, Audrey moved out of the city to raise her family upstate. She was an incredibly creative and generous person with her time and talents, always thinking of what she could do for others, especially as she reared her children. Everything she did, she did with 200% effort and enthusiasm. She was very dedicated and engaged with scouting, serving as a cub scout leader, girl scout leader, and later on involved with the boy scout troop her sons were in. She lead by example, earning her wood badge (an intensive leadership training program) while encouraging and supporting both of her sons to make it to the rank of Eagle Scout. A Girl Scout herself as a child, Audrey worked for Girl Scout Council in Dutchess County, NY for a time and was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts.

Always an animal lover, Audrey adopted a retired greyhound shortly after moving to North Carolina and from there her passion for the breed grew exponentially. She again volunteered her time and creative talents to adopt, rescue, foster, and raise money for these beloved dogs, serving on the board of directors for Triangle Greyhound Society for a number of years. Some of her favorite vacations were greyhound events at the beach where she could be surrounded by dogs and others who loved the breed so much. In addition to retired racing greyhounds, Audrey also volunteered with Mid-Atlantic Italian Greyhound rescue, serving as a foster home for many dogs over the years.

A passionate crafter, Audrey was constantly creating. From crochet to ceramics, painting, and her last love of embroidery, there was no shortage of crafty things happening in her home. Almost everything she made was for others and she loved creating and giving away things she had made to make people happy or to raise money for the greyhound groups she worked with. She was also an avid MahJongg player and enjoyed getting together with a local group in Raleigh for games.

Outside of the personal hobbies that gave her great fulfillment, Audrey worked as an administrative assistant for a number of non-profits and companies over her years of work. Most recently, she was an administrative assistant for Scotties Building Services based in Raleigh.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Lochansky is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Harry Lochansky; children, Matt Lochansky & wife Nicole of Raleigh, Nerice Luu & husband Bill of Richmond, VA, and Elliott Lochansky & wife Courtney of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Jack Lochansky, Jossilin Lochansky, and Lucas Lochansky, and a sister, Moretta Mele & husband George of Orlando, FL.
