Barbara Ann Lavia

Barbara Ann Lavia, 84, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, passed away on March 8, 2025, at WakeMed Hospital. She was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin, to the late Walter and Norma Altenberg Winters.

Barbara’s greatest love was her family, with a special place in her heart reserved for her grandchildren. She would do anything for them and cherished every moment spent together. Her love of nature was equally profound, particularly the beauty of flowers, the ocean, and all things natural.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, James Paul "Jim" Lavia, Jr.; her children, Julie Hunter & husband Kimbel of Salem, VA, Beth Dunn & husband Lane of Wake Forest, and Joseph Lavia & wife Victoria of Severna Park, Maryland; grandchildren, Kristine Binner & husband Matthew of Salem, Virginia, Caroline Tomblin & husband Justin of Pittsboro, North Carolina, Ryan Hunter & wife Kalie of Westfield, Indiana, Matthew Dunn of Wake Forest, and James Lavia of Severna Park, Maryland and Alison Lavia of Severna Park, Maryland; great-grandson, Thomas Binner; brother-in-law, Ronald Lavia & wife Molly of Long Beach, California; extended family members and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Conrad Winters, and her brother-in-law, Lynn Lavia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on May 5, 2025, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Wake Forest, followed by burial in the church's memorial garden.
