Barbara Ann Moon

Barbara Couick Moon, 84, of Wake Forest, passed away Sunday morning, August 6, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.  Ms. Moon was born in Badin, NC, November 20, 1938 to the late John William Couick and Ruth Coggins Couick.  She graduated Badin High School where she lettered in varsity cheerleading and participated in many school clubs with her dear lifelong friends Midge Smith Lunsford, Larry Drye, Donna Littleton Taylor and Charles Eddie Bowers. 

Barbara was a Morehead-Cain Scholarship nominee when graduating from high school and attended East Carolina University.  Although she attended ECU, she was always a Tarheel at heart, living in Chapel Hill for over 30 years. She worked for the banking industry the majority of her career and UNC student stores before retiring.  She enjoyed living in Chapel Hill attending as many Carolina athletic events as possible.  A long time member of Binkley Baptist church, she was an avid reader (a book a day!), she loved beach music, watching movies playing and watching golf.  It was “Nana” that encouraged her granddaughters to learn and play the game of golf. 

Barbara’s passion, pride and greatest enjoyment was her family.  She never missed any milestone or opportunity to babysit or be with her granddaughters.  She never missed a holiday or birthday party, soccer, T-ball or volleyball game, dance recital, school play, award ceremony or golf match.  She volunteered for lunchtime pizza duty, school open house, meet the teacher night and school test proctoring to name a few.  She blessed her family with 84 years of love and special memories.   She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  She left behind a legacy of love, kindness, faith, generosity and integrity. 

A memorial service was held at 3:00 p.m. August 19, 2023 at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home.

Ms. Moon is survived by her daughter, Kelly Whitt and husband John of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Hannah Cox & husband Jonathon of Chapel Hill, Morgan Whitt and fiancé Will of Wake Forest; sister, Linda Wines of Wake Forest, and many beloved cousins, Bonnie Little, Richard Little and Brenda Spivey, nieces Heather Williams, Sheree LaCasse and Stephanie Baron, nephews John Couick, Will Couick and Jim Wines.  She was preceded in death by her siblings, Phil Couick and John William “Bill” Couick, Jr.
