Barbara Jean Knight

Barbara Kyte Knight, 88, of Wake Forest, formerly of Mebane, passed away peacefully Monday morning, October 6, 2025, at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Leslie Koegel Kyte and Dorothy Ruth Buck Kyte. She graduated from Dundalk High School in 1955, attended Peabody Conservatory and graduated from the University of Maryland School of X-Ray Technology. Barbara dedicated her life to caring for others, working as a Certified X-Ray Technician and Certified Nursing Assistant, primarily in Burlington and Greensboro. Her compassion extended beyond her profession; she was known for her generosity with her time, volunteering at local nursing homes, providing free assistance to people seeking help with filing their taxes, and having a heart for people.

 In addition to her medical career, Barbara enjoyed various roles in retail clothing sales and took great joy in helping those around her to feel and look their best. She always greeted people with a smile, laughter, and good conversation.

In her younger years, she shared her love of music by playing the saxophone in band and singing and playing the piano in her church. Throughout her life, she enjoyed dancing and singing, which always made her happy. In the 1980s, she performed for several years as a proud member of the Alamance Chorale.  

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Arnold Lee Knight; children, Curtis Knight & wife Bettina of Raleigh, Christa Knight of Louisburg, and Gail Douglas & husband Paul of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Daphne Knight and Gregory Knight, both of Raleigh, Ryan Dettman of Cincinnati, Ohio, Garrett Dettman and Jason Dettman, both of Wilmington, NC, and Brandon Douglas, Elaina Douglas, and Addison Douglas, all of Wake Forest; as well as extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Frederick Kyte. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home, 1051 Durham Road, Wake Forest, NC 27587 at 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
