Barrie David Barton

Barrie David Barton, 70, of Youngsville, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 27, 2020 at William M. Dunlap Center for Caring. He was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late Louie Tom Barton and Blanche Christine Sellers Barton. Barrie was a former Research Scientist and Lab Manager for EG&G Mound and later retired from ACF Financial as a statistician. During his retirement years, he focused on his love of nature and gardening, but nothing could compare to the love he had for his family. His wisdom, spirit and energy will be greatly missed.

Barrie Barton attended Furman University, where he received a BS in Chemistry and graduated Magna Cum Laude.  He then attended the University of Washington where he received his Ph.D. in Chemistry and did a post-doc at West Virginia University.  Despite his achievements, he said his proudest moments were when he married his wife Jerri, and the births of their two sons, Mike and Dave.  He was a devoted husband and Dad.  He loved reading, classical music, old movies, cooking, hiking and camping in the outdoors.  His favorite hobby was woodworking.  Everyone who knew him knew what a kind, honest, and good person he was.

Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, September 2, 2020 at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home followed by a celebration of Dr. Barton’s life at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Dr. Barton is survived by his spouse of 46 years, Jerri Byrd Barton of Youngsville, NC; sons, Mike Barton of Raleigh, NC and Dave Barton & spouse Christina of Glen Allen, VA.
