Beatrice Helen Davis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at UNC Hospital in Hillsborough, North Carolina, at the age of 92.
Beatrice was born on Monday, September 26, 1932, in Carlstadt, New Jersey, where she lived until 1989. She graduated with the class of 1950 from East Rutherford High School in East Rutherford, New Jersey. In 1952, she married the love of her life, Raymond J. Davis, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in East Rutherford.
Together, Beatrice and Raymond raised their six children in their quaint home Carlstadt. While raising her family, Beatrice worked as an Account Manager for the local Herald News, where she was beloved by many of her paper carriers. She volunteered for the Carlstadt Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
In 1989, Beatrice and Raymond sold their home on Jefferson Street and moved to Durham, North Carolina to retire. Beatrice remained deeply connected to her faith and her community. A devout Catholic, she attended mass regularly at Holy Infant Catholic Church in Durham, where she was a dedicated member for many years. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and served on Holy Infant’s Funeral Committee, yarn ministry and served as an eucharistic minister to parishioners who could no longer attend church.
Beatrice enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, bird watching, and crocheting — crafts that brought joy not only to her family and friends, but also to those in need. For years, Beatrice would sponsor a child from another country, contributing to their education and ensuring they had food each day; a testament to her warmth, generosity, and selflessness.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond J. Davis, and her cherished daughter, Mariann Ramsayer. She is survived by her five loving children and their spouses; Raymond R. Davis, William Davis (Janeen), Justina Sodemann (Richard), John Davis (Jane), and Glenn Davis (Laura). She is also survived by her eight grandchildren; Sean Davis, Connor Davis, Terence Davis, Kayla Sodemann, Collin Ramsayer, Carter Ramsayer, Alisha Sgandurra, and Austin Davis; and her three great-grandsons; Landon, Mason, and Everett Sgandurra and her son-in-law, Chris Ramsayer of Apex.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 11:00 a.m at Holy Infant Catholic Church, 5000 Southpark Drive, Durham, NC 27713 . Her burial will be on Friday, March 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holy Infant Catholic Church in Beatrice's memory.
Beatrice’s life was a testament to love, faith, and family. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
