Benjamin Henry “Ben” Flora, aged 78, of Zebulon, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. He was born in Wake County on October 6, 1945, to the late Henry Lee Flora and Hannah Hobby Flora.
Mr. Flora was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. He pursued his education at NC State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree. Ben's passion for the outdoors led him to create lasting memories with his three children through camping, canoeing, and instilling the values of kindness and integrity.
Utilizing his engineering degree from NC State, he dedicated many years as a mechanical engineer, making valuable contributions in his field. Later in life, he transitioned to a teaching position at Centennial Magnet Middle School, where he continued to impact countless lives, leaving behind a legacy that will endure for years to come.
Benjamin was a devoted member of Zebulon Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. His commitment to his church and his willingness to share his faith and knowledge with others were a testament to his strong sense of community and spiritual devotion.
Ben's life was marked by his dedication to his country, his commitment to education, and his love for family. His influence on those he touched will be a lasting testament to his character and spirit:he was a kind and gentle man. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A graveside service was held in the Garden of Renewal at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens, 770 Stadium Dr., Wake Forest at 11 o’clock, Friday morning, November 10, 2023 (The service area is in a natural area and comfortable footwear was recommended). Friends and family also visited other times at Mr. Flora’s home.
Mr. Flora is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Dianne May Flora, his children, Gregory Flora (Jennifer) of Zebulon, Christopher Flora (Erin) of Raleigh, and Janet Flora of Franklinton; Dianne's children, Mary Paul Cantin (Tony) of Zebulon, and A.T. Debnam (Shaun Womack) of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Spencer Flora(Mary), Elizabeth Flora, Benjamin Flora, Evan Cantin, Lillie Cantin and Asher Womack; brother, John Flora, of Round Hill, Virginia; extended family and many friends.
