Bobby Ray Hunter, 89, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, May 12, 2025, at his home, with his devoted wife by his side.
Born March 2, 1936, in Vance County, Mr. Hunter was the son of the late Fred Ray Hunter and Alberta Treva Caudle Hunter. He was a graduate of Hardbarger Business College and also attended North Carolina State University, remaining a proud and enthusiastic Wolfpack fan throughout his life.
Bobby served his country in the National Guard before beginning a distinguished 33-year career with the United States Postal Service. During his tenure, he was a key figure in implementing many of the systems that modernized postal operations, earning the respect of his peers and advancing to Level 23 status.
A man of deep faith, Bobby and his family were dedicated members of Greystone Baptist Church for over 40 years. As the first family to join after the church was chartered, they helped lay the foundation for a thriving faith community that remained central to their lives.
Bobby is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Peggy Keith Hunter; sons, Bobby Hunter of Raleigh and Michael Keith Hunter and wife Annmarie of Clayton; grandchildren, Vincent Rossiter, Marissa Rossiter, and Brandon Hunter, all of Clayton. He also leaves behind extended family and many dear friends who will miss his warmth, steady presence, and gentle wisdom.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m., with burial following at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
