Carl Julius Kurth of Youngsville passed away on January 27, 2024, at age 53, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Kirsten, their sons Tyler and Logan (with wife Cayleigh), his parents Carol and David Kurth, and his nephews Chandler Kurth and Andrew Kurth.
Doctors told Carl he only had six months to live, but he lived for two years more, spending the days, weeks and months with his sons and wife. He was able to watch his oldest son, Logan, marry his fiancée Cayleigh Peoples in a ceremony a few days before his death. He was grateful for the opportunity to spend time with his family. Carl deeply valued his relationships with others — his wife and sons, other family members, friends and co-workers.
Carl was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Earl and Agnus Kurth of Baltimore and his maternal grandparents Richard and Lena Shackelford, also of Baltimore.
Carl graduated from Millbrook High School in Raleigh and went on to earn many information technology certifications. He worked in technology for more than 25 years, and for the last 14 years worked at Truist and its predecessor bank BB&T. His last position was as a platform engineer for the bank's core technology and operations department.
Carl was a loving father and husband, a beloved friend and trusted colleague. He was a passionate Carolina Hurricanes and Carolina Panthers fan and a dedicated grill master who delighted in feeding his family and friends. He enjoyed TV, movies and history.
He also enjoyed computers, gaming and programming. He spent time working on cutting-edge and retro tech. He had been building a retro gaming computer at home and last year worked on a smartwatch project with his son Tyler.
Carl's life and memory will be celebrated in a service at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home in Wake Forest on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 3 p.m.
