It is with a heavy heart that we share that Gary passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at WakeMed in Raleigh, NC. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Charles Junious Waddell and Ruth Elizabeth Wooten Waddell on October 6, 1948.
God, Country, and Family exemplified Gary. He was a gentle soul who loved his family with all his heart. A proud Vietnam veteran, Gary loved his country and praised God for all he had. Sunday afternoons were meant for Nascar, no exceptions. A perfect Saturday night was sitting around a bonfire playing bluegrass. Gary was proud of his sons and loved his grandchildren more than anyone could ever know. Music was always important to Gary, playing in bands from a very young age. He loved an adventure and had the best sense of humor. For many years he enjoyed entertaining as Winky the Clown. Gary proposed to Kathy, saying “If you want to get married, I reckon that’ll be alright.” Gary loved a good western and as it should be, he left this world with his family by his side and Gunsmoke on the television.
Friends may visit the family from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 3:00 pm in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens. Face coverings and social distancing are requested.
Gary is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathy Murphy Waddell; children, Charles Clifton Waddell of Nashville, TN and Robert Earl Daniels of Rolesville, NC; grandchildren, Charles Jackson Waddell, Kenneth Preston Waddell, Addie Katherine Waddell, Easton Kelly Waddell and Amber Nichole Daniels; sisters, Patricia Muma and Yvonne McHorny. He was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Gail Whiting.
