Donald Foster Myers, 76, of Wake Forest, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2024, at WakeMed Hospital. A devoted husband, gifted horticulturist, and talented musician, Donald left a lasting impact on the many lives he touched.
Born with a passion for plants and flowers, Donald pursued his education in plant pathology at Rutgers University and Cornell University. He later dedicated his career to Bayer CropScience, where he served as a Product Development Manager, blending his expertise and innovation to advance agricultural science.
Donald’s love for nature extended beyond his professional life. As an active member of the American Rose Society, Day Lily, and Iris Clubs, he poured his heart into floral artistry. His talents as a judge, competitor, and hybridizer earned him numerous awards for his exquisite floral arrangements and plant variants, leaving behind a legacy of beauty and creativity in the gardening world.
Music was another cornerstone of Donald's life. He was a cherished member of the choir at St. John’s Episcopal Church and sang with the Northeast Piedmont Chorale. In his younger years, he graced the stage in musical theater, a passion that led him to meet the love of his life, Mary Russick. The two shared 42 wonderful years of marriage until Mary’s passing in 2022. Their love story remains an enduring testament to the power of connection and shared dreams.
Donald’s warmth and generosity extended to his community and family. Though he and Mary had no children, he is survived by a large and loving extended family who will miss his kindness, wit, and unwavering support.
A service to celebrate Donald’s life will be held at a later date at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Wake Forest, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Rose Society, P.O. Box 30000, Shreveport, LA 71130-0030(www.rose.org/donate).
