Earl Richard Neubaum (fondly known as Mickey), 88, of Raleigh, NC formerly of Newport News, VA, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 24, 2021 at Rex Hospital. He was born in Steelton, PA to the late Frank Arthur Neubaum and Florence Edna Rothrock Neubaum on January 13, 1933.
Mickey graduated from the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co. Apprentice School in 1957 with a degree in shipbuilding hull design. He began his career as a designer for the shipyard and later went on to design in the private sector for both John J. McMullen Associates, Inc and M. Rosenblatt & Son, Inc, both located in Newport News. He returned to work at the shipyard for the remainder of his career until his retirement in 1999. Mickey served in the Virginia National Guard until being honorably discharged. Outside of work, Mickey was an avid golfer for most of his life and greatly enjoyed his time on the course with his close friends. Thanks to his upbringing, Mickey developed a deep faith in God early in life. This faith directed his heart, his soul, and the way he lived his life. It gave him great joy to share his faith with anyone that would lend an ear, and he loved to talk about scripture and its meaning. He made many friends over the years in church, Sunday school, and the many bible study groups he loved to attend. He was always learning.
There is no doubt he is in the presence of our Lord and heard these words upon his arrival, “His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” Matt. 25:23. Mickey will be greatly missed by his family, church family, and many friends.
A celebration of Mickey’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7000 Creedmoor Rd, Raleigh, NC 27613. A committal service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6807 Huntington Ave, Newport News, VA 23607; time and date to be determined. The services at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will also be live-streamed at GSLC Raleigh on YouTube for those that prefer to attend virtually.
