Elaine Delores Amaral Perry

Elaine was the daughter of Manuel and Sadie May Amaral. She was born and grew up in New Bedford, Massachusetts where she met the love of her life, Bob Perry. These love birds recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They raised their family in Somerset, MA, and moved to Cary, NC after retiring. 

Elaine was known for her bright smile, cheerful disposition, and youthful spirit. If you knew her, she is likely one of the sweetest, most encouraging people in your life. She enjoyed being outdoors and especially loved listening to the music of the birds. 

Elaine impacted young people throughout her life. She taught children with special needs at Chace Street School and encouraged students during her years in the Guidance Department at Somerset High School. She contributed greatly to countless students’ lives through her support of the Somerset Music Program. She brought sunshine to the lives of many campers over the years at the North of Highland Camp Store.

She loved her family and friends fiercely and we will feel her loss in profound ways. She leaves behind her husband, Robert (Bob); sons, Robert and John and their wives, Kim and Danielle; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (and husband, Will), Jake, Nick (and wife, Molly), Ty (and wife, Desiree), Seth, and Megan; three great-grandchildren, Hazel, Ellis, and Navy Leslie. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Manny and Nancy, and her beloved daughter, Leslie Ann.

Because of her trust in Jesus, we know she is whole again and reunited with Leslie. Mom will be at the gates to cheer us all in when our day comes. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Amanda Sherrod and the kind staff at UNC Rex Cancer Care in Cary and Transitions LifeCare for their excellent care and support. In place of flowers, donations to UNC Health Foundation-Lineberger Cancer Fund or Transitions LifeCare are encouraged.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 am, Wednesday morning, September 18, 2024 at Devoted City Church, 590 Westhigh Street in Cary, NC.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday morning, September 21, 2024 in Somerset, MA at Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton Street, Somerset, MA 02726.  A private burial will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Bedford, MA.
