Ernest Middleton “Ernie” Lamar, Jr., 83, of Raleigh, formerly of Summerfield and Greensboro, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, April 14, 2025, at Wake Assisted Living.
Born on April 8, 1942, in Rockingham County, North Carolina, Ernie was the son of the late Elizabeth Shumate Lamar and Ernest Middleton Lamar, Sr.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Ernie answered the call to serve his country with honor and dignity. Following his military service, he dedicated over three decades in the tax department for Guilford County. Even in retirement, he remained active and engaged, working at the Greensboro Auto Auction where he made countless friendships and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Ernie had a genuine love for the outdoors. Whether casting a line on a quiet afternoon or simply enjoying the fresh air, he found peace and joy in nature.
He is survived by his son, Chad R. Lamar of Lantana, FL; daughter, Kelly Lamar Faas and her husband Mike of Wake Forest; cherished grandson, Aidan Faas; and sister, Beth Weeks and her husband George of Virginia Beach, VA. He also leaves behind extended family and many dear friends.
A private service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to the Fisher House Foundation, an organization that supports military families. (www.fisherhouse.org)
