George Donald Meyer, Jr., 72, known affectionately to many as Don, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Don was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to the late George Donald Meyer and Mary Joan Normington Meyer. His life was a testament to dedication, service, and the love he shared with his family.
Prior to retirement, Don was an Education Program Manager with IBM, where he dedicated an incredible 40 years of his life to the betterment of the company. During his tenure at IBM, Don was given the opportunity to travel globally representing the company. Barb was able to join in many of these work adventures.
Before his remarkable career with IBM, Don was proud to have served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972, including a tour in Vietnam. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of duty, honor, and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life.
At home, Don enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and bird-watching with his four-legged companion Wrigley by his side. In retirement, Don and Barb traveled frequently between Raleigh, North Carolina and Rochester, Minnesota cherishing time spent with family and friends. Don was an avid history buff, he enjoyed all that was American history; books, documentaries, movies, and historical sites.
As a loving husband, father, proud grandfather, and brother, Don's family was the centerpiece of his world. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Barbara Rezabeck Meyer, and their daughters, Sarah May (Jeffrey) of Rochester, Minnesota, Emily Meyer (Rian) of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Rebecca Senne (Thomas) of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren, Carter
May, Caleb May, Tobias Cascio, Elijah Cascio, Amelia Senne, Theo Senne, Vincent Senne, Neva Senne and Wade Senne; sisters, Mimi Gall (Steve) and Kathryn Beytien (Bradley) brothers, John Meyer and Timothy Meyer (Sandra.) Don's circle of family also included his sisters-in-law, Catherine Rezabeck (Michael Goodwin), and Nancy Eckman (Rolland, deceased); brother-in-law John Rezabeck (Julia); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
