Gregory Allen “Greg” Swanson, 77, of Franklinton, formerly of Jamestown, New York, passed away on December 25, 2025, at Duke Raleigh Hospital.
He was born in Jamestown, New York, on November 26, 1948, to the late Milton and Dorothy Lang Swanson. A 1966 graduate of Jamestown High School, Greg continued his education and became a skilled Journeyman Mechanic/Machinist with SKF. He was employed in Jamestown for 19 ½ years before retiring.
Throughout his life, Gregory faithfully shared his love for the Lord Jesus Christ. He was active in various churches and was honored to serve as pastor of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in Sinclairville, New York, where he lovingly shepherded the congregation for seven years.
Growing up on Chautauqua Lake instilled in him a lifelong love of the water and fishing, a passion he carried with him throughout his life. He also had a special fondness for antiques, and he and his wife cherished the many hours spent together searching for unique pieces with stories to tell.
Services will be held at a later date.
Greg is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Norma Jean Parker Swanson; children, Donald Swanson of Jamestown, NY, and Holly Swanson McGuyrt & husband Roger of Franklinton; grandchildren, Casandra Swanson of Raleigh, Kodey Swanson of Corry, PA, Tasha Read & husband Joshua of Franklinton, Nathan Marshall of Franklinton, and Natalie Marshall of Greensboro; great-grandchildren, Bentley Lute and Harlow Read; sisters, Pamela Goodwill & husband Thomas of Jamestown, NY, and Carole James & husband David of Richfield, Ohio; along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Swanson.
