H. Scott Hall Obituary

Harry Scott Hall, 71, of Wake Forest, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 26, 2021 at WakeMed Hospital. He was born in Cook County, Illinois to the late Orville Emmitt Hall and Ellen Frieling Hall.

Scott’s first love was figuring out how things worked. He took cars and airplanes apart for fun. (Though sometimes his patience was lacking)! While cars were his passion, they did not hold a candle to the love and passion he had for his wife, Judy, and his daughters, Candice and Emily. His family always came first.

Whether it was a trip to Wisconsin for fishing, or to cut down a Christmas tree, or watching every school play and eagerly helping his girls with their science projects (is there anything better than making electromagnets with duct tape and bolts or a volcano that erupts?), Scott was an ever-present Dad who made his kids feel loved and even a little over-protected. His love for his family was as great as his worry for them. This was true especially as he gained his two sons-in-law, and his 7 grandchildren later on.

Scott was an avid “car guy” and aviation lover. He held his pilot’s license and loved flying and working on small aircraft, which eventually translated to his career with Midway Airlines as an airline mechanic, and eventually Director of Aircraft Maintenance. He loved fixing and driving cars; a 1979 Trans Am and 2019 Bullitt Mustang, were his two babies. A hobby that allowed him to share his keen knowledge with his sons-in-law, Colt and Brad, which only made him love cars more.

In their early years, he and Judy loved going to Elkhart Lake for the races or traveling down to Florida to enjoy the sun and their friends. Later, they enjoyed driving “dates” or regular date nights of Red Robin and Home Depot as long as they were spending time together.

Scott has left a legacy of knowledge, the desire for a little too much order, but most of all fierce love. He is missed beyond measure. (And he had better call when he gets home).

The family will hold private services at a later date.

Scott is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judith “Judy” Kennedy Hall; daughters, Candice Hall Ortego & husband Colt of Raleigh and Emily Hall Humphries & husband Brad of Youngsville; grandchildren, Sophie, Adelaide & Jamie Ortego and Lauralye, Callie, Ethan & Cora Humphries; brother, Gary T. Hall of Chapin, SC; brothers-in-law, Kevin Kennedy & wife Linda of Darien, IL and Robert Kennedy of Frankfort, IL; nephews & niece, Zach, Amanda and Michael Kennedy; many extended family members and friends.
