Herman Edward Choplin

Herman Edward Choplin, 98, a lifelong resident of Wake Forest, passed away Friday, November 12, 2022.

During World War Il in 1943, Herman joined the 35th Infantry division (General George Patton) and trained at Fort Jackson, SC and Fort Bragg, NC. He fought in Europe along the Rhine when the 101st Division became trapped in Belgium in what became known as the Battle of The Bulge.

Following his return from the war, Herman served the Wake Forest community and surrounding areas while managing the Freezer Locker in Wake Forest and later owning and operating a café and then a store in the Falls community.

Herman was the oldest living member of Falls Baptist Church where he faithfully served until his health declined. He was also a founding member of the Falls Volunteer Fire Department. Herman spent his life in service to and cared for others.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, William Buck and Ada Whitley Choplin, first wife, Inez Choplin and siblings, Tensie Whitley, Estelle Lassiter and Earl Choplin.

Herman is survived by his wife, Patricia Fox, her children and their families; nieces and nephew, Yvonne Hudson and family, Mary Jo Minnis and family, John Whitley and family and the late Patricia Tillman Jeans family.

A graveside service was held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the Falls Community Cemetery. Friends visited with the family following the service.

Another member of The Greatest Generation gone, but never forgotten.
