Horst M. Weimann, 90, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. Born on November 1, 1933, in Berlin, Germany, to the late Emilie and Paul Weimann, Horst's life journey was marked by resilience, hard work, and a deep commitment to family.
After completing high school, Horst pursued his passion for craftsmanship and attended trade school in Germany, graduating as a machinist and tool maker on September 13, 1952. Seeking new opportunities, he immigrated to Chicago, Illinois, on December 5, 1952, where he embarked on a remarkable journey in the United States.
In 1956, Horst joined the Army and underwent training at Fort Hood, Texas, before serving with the 9th Engineer Battalion. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on August 20, 1958, he embraced American citizenship on June 2, 1959. That same year, he married the love of his life, Margot, on July 4, 1959, beginning a partnership that would endure for over six decades.
Their family grew when their son Robert was born on October 12, 1964, while they lived in Chicago. In 1967, they purchased their first home in Des Plaines, Illinois, a milestone delayed by the historic blizzard of that year. Horst's career as a machinist and tool maker included stints at Kraft Foods Nabisco and the American Company, where his expertise with precision lathes earned him respect among colleagues and friends. He retired at 62 in 1995, having dedicated himself tirelessly to his profession.
In 1997, Horst and Margot relocated to Vero Beach, Florida, where he indulged in his passions for gardening, fishing, and reading, but above all, cherished time spent with family. One of his proudest moments came at the age of 82 in 2015 when he became a grandfather.
In 2022, Horst and Margot moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, to be closer to their family, a testament to their enduring bond and commitment to kinship.
Horst Weimann will be remembered for his kindness, steadfastness, and unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and a life well-lived. He is survived by his loving wife Margot, devoted son Robert(Cristiana), cherished grandson, Nolan, and a host of friends and family who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
He and his wife were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church while living in Vero Beach, FL and he will be entombed in the church columbarium at a later date.
