Irma Margaret Murphy passed away on June 9, 2023 at Wake Med Hospital after a battle with pneumonia.
Irma was born on October 3, 1932 to Herbert and Hermine Kneisler. She attended and graduated in 1950 from Bergenfield HS where she was a varsity cheerleader and participated in many school clubs with her dear lifelong friend Nancy Kropp.
She met her husband, Gerard Murphy in 1950. Jerry was a star football player for the rival Teaneck HS so they came together after graduation. Irma and Gerard married on May 10th, 1953 and were together for 59 years. They started their life together in Bergenfield and began their family there too. After Steven was born the young family moved to Washington Township. It was here the other three boys were born, Mike, Kevin, and Gerard (Murf). They outgrew the home and in 1966 moved to Hillsdale NJ where they raised their 4 boys along with Hermine Kneisler. Irma was a stay-at-home mom till the kids reached middle school at which time she decided to take a part-time job nearby so she could be home when her youngest came home from school.
Irma enjoyed working but was proudest of her most important job, being a mom, something she did wonderfully! She was a warm and caring mother who loved her family unconditionally, which was something all her "boys", Big Jerry included, would challenge on many different occasions throughout her life. With all the challenges, Mom's love never faltered even after the "boys" brought another male into the family, our beloved pup, Bubba whom she grew to love as well!
A memorial service was held at 11 o’clock, Saturday morning, June 17, 2023 at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home, 1051 Durham Rd, Wake Forest, NC 27588.
Irma was predeceased by her husband Gerard V. Murphy in 2012.
