Jane Katherine Lassiter Smith

Jane Katherine “Kay” Lassiter Smith, 77, of Wake Forest, passed away Monday evening, March 22, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Wake County to the late Eddie Allen Lassiter and Ida Katherine Hicks Lassiter on December 10, 1943.

Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 25th at the Bay Leaf Baptist Church Sanctuary, 12200 Bayleaf Church Road, Raleigh, North Carolina 27614, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park. Due to COVID-19, face coverings and social distancing are requested. 

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Sharon Smith Henry & husband, Craig of Wake Forest; grandson, Joseph Chase Henry of Wake Forest; brother, Douglas Lassiter (Jeanette) of Salisbury; sisters-in-law, Miriam Rawls (William) of Raleigh, Patricia Baars of Washington D.C., Frances Dreps of Durham and Theresa Lassiter of Spartanburg, SC; a great many nieces, nephews and extended family. She also leaves behind numerous close friends and special neighbors. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Stewart Smith; siblings, Ray Lassiter, William Lassiter (Bette), Pattie Ruth Carroll (Robert Lee), James Lassiter (Nell) and Eddie Alvin Lassiter (Brenda).

Throughout her life, she shared her deep faith through cooking delicious food, creating a beautiful, loving atmosphere, and lifting anyone around her in need. Her message at its core was the salvation and grace of Jesus.
