Jeanne M. de Montbrun (née Charlebois) Obituary

Jeanne Marie de Montbrun, 86, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026 at Falls River Court Memory Care in Raleigh, NC.

Born on December 12, 1939, in Glens Falls, NY, Jeanne was the youngest of ten children of Alcide and Yvonne Charlebois (née Lemery). She grew up in a close-knit household where strong family bonds became the foundation of her life.

Jeanne was predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years, P. Michael de Montbrun, and by all nine of her siblings.

She was a devoted and proud mother to five children: Michelle Holland (Tom, deceased), Jeffrey de Montbrun (Sandra), Barbara Agan, Elizabeth Shepard (John), and Stephen deMontbrun (Wendy). Jeanne’s greatest joy was her ever-growing family of twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

After marrying Mike and moving several times, the couple settled in Johnsonville, NY, where they raised their five children. Once her children were all in school, Jeanne worked as a bookkeeper for Lohnes Associates, where she was admired for her diligence, integrity, and attention to detail. She and Mike were longtime members of St. Monica’s Church, where Jeanne taught Sunday School and both were active in parish life.

Following Mike’s retirement, they relocated to Wilmington, NC. Jeanne continued her bookkeeping career at Whitey’s Motel before retiring. In Wilmington, she and Mike enjoyed square dancing, playing bridge, and participating in parish life at St. Therese Catholic Church in Wrightsville Beach. Jeanne volunteered in the parish office and served on several committees.

A lifelong helper, Jeanne dedicated herself to serving others, volunteering at the local library, driving seniors to appointments, and lending a hand wherever it was needed. Even in her later years at Falls River, she remained a compassionate presence, assisting fellow residents and offering a kind word or listening ear. A lifelong learner and avid reader, she loved crossword puzzles and could often be found with a pen in hand and a puzzle in progress. Jeanne was also an avid walker and kept up with her daily regimen well into her 70’s.

Her grace, strength, and quick wit endured even as she faced the challenges of dementia. Jeanne will be remembered for her deep faith, friendly spirit, and unwavering love for her family.

The family plans a private ceremony to celebrate her life later this year.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Dementia Society of America at (www.dementiasociety.org
