Joyce Alford Blackley

Joyce Alford Blackley 87 passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 19, 2022. A Native of Nash County. She was the daughter of the late Darner and Grace Bryant Alford.

She was a loving, kind wife, mom, sister, daughter and friend. She loved making chocolate pies for all her friends and family. She loved the Lord and served at her church, singing in the choir, and working in the church nursery, she taught children’s Sunday School for many years. She served as a Deaconess at Zebulon Baptist Church. She worked at Dr. LM Massey in Zebulon NC as a Dental Assistant for many years. She had many accomplishments, but her grandchildren were her favorite and she enjoyed spending time with them.

Friends visited with the family from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, October 22, 2022 at Hopkins Chapel Church,4525 Hopkins Chapel Rd, Zebulon, NC 27597, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial followed in the Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Zebulon.

She is survived by the love of her life for 63 years, Charles Blackley; her children, Brenda Woodlief & husband Andy and Patsy Engesser & husband, Johnnie; grandchildren, Zach Engesser & wife Alex and Lauren Parker & husband Patrick; step-grandchildren,  Anitra Pearce & husband Tommy, Scott Engesser and Chris Engesser; step-great-grandchildren, Ethan Pearce and Devon Engesser. She is also survived by her brothers Fred Alford (Mary Ann), Ray Alford; sister, Katrina Smith and a sister-in-law, Joyce Young Alford. She was preceded in death by siblings, Everett Alford, Ralph Alford, Norman Alford, Shelby Jean Alford and Alice Mentlewski.

Her last days were more fulfilling by the Angels from Transition Life Care. Gloria and Bernadette and caregiver Doris. We are grateful for their care.
