Judith Marie Lett, 79, passed on and reunited with the love of her life at the heavenly gates on January 23, 2026, while at home and surrounded by family who loved and adored her.
Born on May 31, 1946, in Boone County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Lowell (Buster) Elkins and Irene Ward Elkins. She graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, WV in 1964.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie Lee Lett, after 59 beautiful years of marriage that set an example of true and unconditional love for generations to come.
There are no earthly words to describe the impact that Judy had on those around her. She lived her life with an unwavering dedication and wholehearted support for her loved ones. During her late husband’s time serving his country in the United States Army, Judy was a devoted military wife and worked for Stars and Stripes while stationed in Germany. She later retired from her career as a retail associate to help raise her grandchildren, and it is no secret to all who knew her that her most treasured title in this life was Nana. And over the last three decades, she was known as Nana to nearly everyone she met, and she rarely met a stranger.
She was truly an exceptional person and to know her was to love her. Nana was nurturing, patient, thoughtful, tenderhearted, and exhibited a kind of quiet strength and gentleness that made the world a better place. Some of her most cherished activities included going to the beach, playing solitaire, taking long drives with the radio on, reminiscing and telling stories, a good shopping trip and watching movies while eating popcorn with her grandkids, a pastime that she affectionally dubbed as ‘popcorn parties.’
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Sandra Newell, Patricia Higginbotham, Carol Ball, Sue Cook, Jean Farley, and Jimmy Elkins.
She is survived by her two children, Mark W Lett of Buckhannon, WV and Joy Marie Fealy-Kalar and husband Michael Kalar of Wake Forest, NC; grandchildren Kiersten Reider and partner Derek Furtado, Ian Fealy, Aiden Fealy, Gretchen Kelly and husband Matthew Kelly, and Cameron Kalar; two great-grandchildren Jaxon and Marshall; siblings Sherry Cabell, Karen Rothan, Cheryl Dembowski, Betty Forro, and Paul Elkins; several nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members.
A private family service will be held to honor Nana’s life. Her family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time.
Combating hunger and food insecurity was a cause that was near and dear to Nana’s heart, so in lieu of memorial trees or flowers, her family has requested that donations be made to the Mountaineer Food Bank. The link for donations can be found here, "Mountaineer Food Bank"
