Marianne Lane Bostian Obituary

On Tuesday, October 5th, 2021, Marianne Lane Bostian went to her heavenly home and passed peacefully at WakeMed, in Raleigh, NC, at the young age of 67.

Marianne was born on April 20th, 1954 in Philadelphia, PA to the late James Kershaw Lane and Janet Mary Gredone Lane. During her early childhood years, Marianne moved with her family throughout Pennsylvania before settling in Memphis, TN and graduating from Overton High School with honors.

Marianne attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and a Master’s degree in Food Science. After graduation, Marianne moved to North Carolina where she began her career and expanded her family. After her first son and daughter were born in Raleigh, Marianne and her family began their 12-year journey overseas. A series of life-long friends and memories were made as they moved from France to Singapore to Japan, and back to France. Marianne easily mastered the challenges of living life as an “ex-pat” by learning French, becoming an elite soccer mom, taking on extra work as a substitute teacher, and even learning to drive on the wrong side of the road!

Once back state-side, Marianne began a new career path as store manager of an antique store. In 2009, she met her beloved partner, Andy. Nearly inseparable the next 12 years, they spent time traveling, going to plays and concerts, and enjoying each other’s company. Marianne also managed to squeeze in time for quilting, planning annual family beach vacations, and celebrating every holiday to its fullest. Her greatest joy, bar none, however, was spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren.

On October 17th, 2012, Marianne began her battle with Parkinson’s disease. She approached this new challenge with strength, tenacity, and determination. Her family and her friends were her unwavering support system, but nothing compared to her commitment to living a full life despite her illness.

Marianne is survived by her children, Ryan Bostian & wife Jessica of Raleigh, Jessica Weems & husband Mason of Raleigh, and Christopher Bostian of Raleigh; longtime partner, Andy Schmitt and his son, Andy Schmitt, Jr.; grandchildren, Owen Bostian, Holden Weems, and Emerson Weems; siblings Patrick Lane of Phoenix, AZ and Dennis Lane & wife Desiree of Golden, CO; former sister-in-law, Sandy Lane & husband, Jim Cole of Cincinnati, OH; former husband, Arlin Bostian & wife Lori of Hendersonville, NC; extended family and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 o’clock PM EST, Friday afternoon, October 15th, 2021 at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 600 West Holding Avenue, Wake Forest, NC. Inurnment will follow in the church Memorial Garden. The family requests that guests wear a face-covering and maintain social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Marianne’s honor to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777 New York, NY 10163-4777. www.michaeljfox.org/donate
