Rachel Manning McIntyre

Rachel Anne Manning McIntyre, 79, of Raleigh, passed away Friday, February 10, 2023. She was born in Martin County to the late Nicholas Reddick Manning, Sr. and Daisy Vashti Starnes Manning.

Rachel grew up in Burlington, NC and graduated from Williams High School, Elon College (BA Education) and Alamance Community College (Accounting).  She worked as a teacher, a bookkeeper and then finished her career at Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in the accounting department.

She was raised in the Methodist church, and she attended Davis Street United Methodist Church in Burlington.  She attended many different churches as she traveled the world.  Her final church home was Wakefield United Methodist Church in Raleigh. 

Rachel embraced the travel and the adventures of her years as a military spouse and cherished all the friends she made throughout her life.  She counted her siblings and their spouses amongst the greatest blessings in her life.  She cherished every Manning family gathering, especially the annual summer vacations in Ocean Isle Beach.

Rachel was a devoted Mom to Jimmy and Molly and a wonderful Mother-in-law to Mary Beth and Jason.  She was always there to provide love and support for all of them.  Her favorite role in life was as Grammy to Evan, Connor, Dillon, Owen, and Graham.  Nothing touched the love, pride, and joy that she had for her 5 grandsons. 

Rachel was dearly loved by her family and friends and is survived by her children, James H. “Jimmy” McIntyre, Jr. & wife Mary Beth of Durham and Molly McDaniel & husband Jason of Raleigh; grandchildren, Evan & Graham McIntyre both of Durham and Connor, Dillon & Owen McDaniel all of Raleigh; siblings, Nicholas Reddick “Nick” Manning, Jr. & wife Shirley of Burlington, Linda Manning Zizzamia & husband Tony of Wilmington and Cathy Manning Richeson & husband Bob of Pikeville; many special nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.

A celebration of Rachel’s life will be held at 11 o’clock, Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Wakefield United Methodist Church, 10701 Common Oaks Drive, Raleigh, NC 27614.

Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service.
