Russell J. "Russ" Dey

Russell John "Russ" Dey, 65, of Wake Forest, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 19, 2024, at his home. Born on August 16, 1958, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Russ achieved his AB degree from Harvard University in 1980, marking the beginning of a successful 19-year career with IBM as a programmer.

After leaving IBM, Russell made the compassionate decision to prioritize caring for his family affairs. He was deeply involved in his son's life, notably a longstanding member of the Wings of Carolina Flight Club and the local Experimental Aircraft Association, reflecting his passion for aviation and camaraderie.

A celebration to honor Russell's life will be announced in the coming days.

Mr. Dey is survived by his loving wife, Eileen Marie Sweeney; devoted son, Robert Gordon "Robby" Dey of Columbia, South Carolina; mother, Janet Dey of Garden City, Michigan; sisters, Jaqueline Dey of Houston, Texas and Allison Wittkopp of Suttons Bay, Michigan; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert John Dey.
