Susan "Sue" Ellington Goodwin

On Friday November 26, 2021, Susan “Sue” Ellington Goodwin, loving Mother, Mother-in-law, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother and Great Grandmother passed away at the age of 87 from Esophageal Cancer. Sue was born on July 26, 1934 in Franklin County, NC to Addie and Eugene Ellington. She worked for many years at Carolina Coach Company (Trailways) where she met her husband Harvey J. Goodwin. She raised her daughter Donna and had a step-daughter Sharon Larson. She also worked and retired from Wake County Public Schools Vocation Education Department. She loved the people she worked with like family! She loved books and you could always find her reading which was her passion! She had been keeping the library where she lived for the past 4 years at Brightmore of Wilmington. She really liked helping people pick out a book when she would be in there. She was the most caring and loving person with a compassionate spirit that put others before herself. She always loved looking out for people as she did that a lot when she lived in Rolesville. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Ellington, her mother, Addie Privette Ellington, her loving husband, Harvey Goodwin, her brother Richard “Dick” Ellington and her special friend Roy Mitchell.

Sue is survived by her daughter, Donna Hartlaub (Mitch) of Wilmington; her brother, Bob Ellington of Wake Forest; sister, Jean Barham (Lee)  of Youngsville; her granddaughter, Lauren Hartlaub Brothers (Nick) of Winnabow; granddaughter Casey Hartlaub of Wilmington; great-granddaughter, Lillian “Lilly” Brothers; great-grandson, Benjamin “Ben” Brothers of Winnabow and several cherished nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 2, 2021 11:00 am at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral and Cremation in Wake Forest, NC. Interment to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Life Care (Hospice) in Wilmington, NC, Rolesville Baptist Church, or Charlotte Cocker Rescue in Charlotte, NC.
