Sylvia Ann Meadows, 71, of Raleigh, NC, passed away on Saturday morning, August 16, 2025, at UNC Hospital.
Born in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, on November 18, 1953, Sylvia was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Semuta LaBuda. A proud and dedicated professional, she retired after 30 years of service as a Fiscal Officer at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Sylvia spent many years in Upper Arlington/Columbus, OH, before enjoying time in North Myrtle Beach, SC, and eventually settling in Raleigh to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law.
A woman who found joy in life’s simple pleasures, Sylvia loved the excitement of playing slots, whether it was in Las Vegas, Danville, VA, or aboard her favorite cruise ship. Traveling brought her great happiness, but nothing brought her more fulfillment than helping others. Her compassion and generosity touched many lives, and she was always looking for ways to make life easier for those around her.
Sylvia also had a special place in her heart for her beloved dogs—Daisy, Lucy, and Zoey—who were loyal companions and brought her endless comfort over the years.
She is survived by her daughter, Maggie Merry & husband Paul of Raleigh; brothers, Thomas LaBuda of Fountain Hill, PA, Raymond LaBuda of Coopersburg, PA, Robert LaBuda of New Hope, PA, and James LaBuda of Whitehall, PA; and her cherished granddogs, Kiki, Annie, Ollie, and Remy. Sylvia was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Dale Meadows.
A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held at a later date.
