Thomas Bany passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family while holding his wife Mireille’s hand on April 30th, 2026.
He lived a remarkable life with a great impact on many. Originally from Budapest, Hungary, he escaped the Hungarian Revolution and became a refugee in the United States. Tom lived the epitome of the American Dream – building a beautiful family and a successful restaurant in New York City, the Hungarian Rendezvous and Cooking With Love in Haworth, New Jersey. Tom’s passion for cooking was shown by his love in each dish. His greatest joy was cooking for his family and friends.
Haworth was where he raised his three children alongside his wife. Tom was a resilient man who overcame great odds. He was a dedicated and loving husband to Mireille for 60 years, an amazing father to his three children, Jodi, Greg, and Peter, a loving father-in-law to Kevin, Viktoria, and Kim, and later a fantastic grandfather to Sophia, Ashley, Sarah, Claudia, Zealand, Darby, and Isabel. In 2016, Tom and Mireille moved to Wake Forest, NC, enjoying time with their family and friends.
He loved how green North Carolina is with all its beautiful trees and flowers. Tom will be remembered as a loving, kind, strong, mischievous, and resilient man who cherished his family above everything. Tom was, and always will be, his family's bright star. His legacy and teachings will be carried on, “step by step,” for generations.
A private entombment was held on Monday, May 4, 2026 at Garden of Memories, Washington Township, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org)
