Timothy Paul Donnelly, 67, of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2023 in Hospice at Hillside Nursing & Rehab, after a very courageous battle with cancer. Everyone whose life Tim touched is sad that he is no longer among us, especially since we can no longer enjoy his company, his humor and wit, and his natural charm.
Born on October 8, 1956 in Elmira, NY, Tim was preceded in death by his mother, Judi Donnelly and his father, Kenneth Pelow. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Donnelly, and his daughter, Cara Donnelly May (Brad), and his beloved dog, Bernie. Tim is also survived by his brother, Dan Gill, and his sisters, Kathy Donnelly and Mary Strickland. Tim is also survived by nieces, Heather Rose, Keely Tober (Steven Matthis), Sarah Foy (Michael), Danielle Gill, and Nathalie Podgorsky (Mike), and nephew Ryan Tober, and extended family and friends. He was greatly respected in his community.
Tim’s early years were unique and adventurous. As a young boy, he led a Bohemian lifestyle in a converted school bus, traveling across the country with his mom and siblings. His family settled in Dundee, NY, where Tim attended Dundee High School. He was a standout football and basketball player as well as a track star. He set many league records! He most fondly remembered being Prom King. Tim went on to graduate from the University of New York at Albany with a history major. For the remainder of his life, he enjoyed reading history, visiting museums, and exploring battlefields with his friends.
Tim had a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry where he earned numerous performance awards. Even when he was very sick, he would make the nurses slowly tell him the name of each medicine he was taking and what it was for.
Tim would tell you that his greatest accomplishment is his daughter, Cara, and he is so proud of Brad and her and the life they are building. Remarkably knowledgeable in many subjects that Cara was studying in medical school, they had a special time together when he was coaching her and helping her take medical exams. Tim was a wonderful father, and despite his medical condition, he was able to give Cara away at her wedding in Colorado. With Cara, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting his relatives in Ireland, his ancestral homeland.
A memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday morning, February 10, 2024 at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home, 1051 Durham Road, Wake Forest, NC 27587.
