Unsook Kim Suh entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the Kingdom of heaven on January 17, 2025 at the age of 90.
She was born in Seoul, South Korea on February 28, 1934. While enduring the Korean War she graduated from Jin Myung High School, although her father was kidnapped from his home by the Communists and he was never heard from again. Her family evacuated to the south during the war. When South Korea was liberated from the invasion from the Communists by the United States of America, Unsook attended Ewha Womens University and graduated with a degree in Home Economics.
Unsook moved to the United States with her fiancé where she was married in November 1958 to Chung Sun Suh. They eventually moved to Greensboro, North Carolina and birthed and raised two sons there. The family was the first South Korean family to live in North Carolina and their sons, Paul born in 1959 and Kendall born in 1960 were the first Koreans born in North Carolina.
Unsook enjoyed being a homemaker and raised her two sons in Greensboro while also juggling part time and full-time jobs. She was proud to raise her two sons who eventually became physicians and considered that to be her greatest accomplishment.
Unsook and Chung (deceased 2023) lived in Shallotte, North Carolina after retirement and then eventually moved to the Raleigh area to live near their sons.
She is survived by her sons Dr. Paul Boksuk Suh (Kay) and Dr. Kendall Hyunsuk Suh (Eunjin), her granddaughters, Sara Suh Petty (David), Hannah Suh Kittinger (William), Rachel Jeehee Suh, and her great-grandsons William Townes Kittinger II, Wyatt Charles Kittinger, Broughton Petty, as well as nieces and nephews and cousins in the USA and South Korea.
After her cremation her ashes will be buried at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest beside the burial site of Chung.
