Walter “Hunter” Holding, Jr., 75, of Wake Forest, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, January 8, 2026 at Raleigh Rehab. Born in Wake County, Hunter was the son of the late Carolyn Vick Holding and Walter Hunter “Buddy” Holding, Sr. He lived a life rooted in faith, family, and quiet devotion to those he loved.
Hunter retired after 18 years of faithful service at Peace College, where he worked in many roles throughout the kitchen. To those who knew him, he was dependable, kind, and always willing to lend a hand.
He was a man of deep faith and simple joys. He loved God, cherished his family, and was a proud and loyal fan of his beloved NC State Wolfpack.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday afternoon, January 11, 2026, at Wake Forest Cemetery.
Hunter is survived by his devoted brother, Stephen Vick “Steve” Holding, Sr.; his nephew, Stephen Vick Holding, Jr. of Wake Forest; his niece, Dr. Kelly Elizabeth Holding of Raleigh; his beloved dog, Axel; and many friends and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Hunter was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Beth Kelly Holding.
