William Scott “Bill” Hunt, Jr., 87, of Zebulon, NC passed away Monday morning, April 25, 2022 at Magnolia Glen in Raleigh. He was born in Washington DC to the late William Scott Hunt, Jr. and Mary Taylor Hunt.
Bill dedicated his long career to faithful public service. He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy (1956) and served his country in the United States Navy from 1956 until 1960. Most of his career was spent with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), retiring as Supervisor of the Technical and Logistics Division, after serving the SBI for 27 years. After the SBI, Bill helped to establish the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) at Nationwide Insurance and his mark can still be found there today. Most important to Bill was his devotion to and hope in Jesus Christ, which he faithfully demonstrated in how well he served and loved his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2022 at Zebulon Baptist Church, 400 North Arendell Avenue, Zebulon, NC 27597, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Hunt is survived by his sons, William “Scott” Hunt, III & wife Lesley of Zebulon, and Bryan Taylor Hunt & wife Lisa of Wake Forest; grandchildren, William Scott Hunt, IV & wife Jenny of Wendell, Mary Paul Hunt and AnnaScott Hunt of Zebulon; great-grandson, William Scott “Liam” Hunt, V; brother-in-law Wayne Jordan of Southern Pines; sister-in-law, Shirley Godwin of Wilmington; nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Linda Faye Sikes Hunt in 2018, and his sister, Jean "Jeannie" Hunt Jordan in 2015.

SOFA helps finance budget gaps in the training of future SBI agents at the Academy, a program that Bill spearheaded establishing. Contributions are also an integral part of continuing education for qualifying SBI agents to participate in advanced leadership and skills offered by the FBI.
