Deane was a dear friend of my mother, Maxine Hancock Lincoln, from their days together in college. They kept in touch over all the years and miles, and Mom (aged 98) was very sad to hear of Deane's passing. We, Mom's children, grew up hearing great stories of the fast friendship Deane gave to our mother, a poor farm kid whom a lot of benefactors gave amazing opportunities by attending Americus.
